Woman Are Amazing

Maria cabrera, March 2022

“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we can handle.” -Frida Kahlo
Women are truly mother nature's best creation! What would the world do without us? We are strong, unbreakable, and empowering human beings who inspire great change across the world. We can accomplish so much in so little time and still make time to kick back, relax, and stop to smell the roses along our path to success. We are innovators, creators, mothers, educators, advisors, friends, supporters… well, you get the gist.

This month, we celebrate the contributions of women in our society, both large and small, that have inspired many others to pursue their dreams and shine bright like diamonds to constantly improve our society. So pull up a chair, grab some snacks, and get comfortable because here are some of the amazing things women have accomplished throughout history that are mind-blowing.
This first accomplishment may not come to anyone's surprise, but it's important to acknowledge nonetheless: women can create life with their bodies! Women have the ability to carry tiny humans inside their bodies for about 9 months and still find time to work, cook, teach, sleep, and repeat! Just like magic, which I think is pretty cool. Not only that, but by becoming mothers, they are able to care for another life other than theirs and still be successful! So next time you see your mom, tell her how cool, magical, and amazing she is for carrying you in her belly for 9 months and still putting up with your amazing personality :)

Next, women are literally the world's best multitaskers because of the various roles we carry. Women play many different roles in society, including the role of mothers, daughters, interpreters, educators, innovators, and basically any other thing you can think of. I have yet to meet a woman who isn’t doing one million and one things while going to school or working a part-time job, which just proves how amazing they are. Plus, how many other people do you know who will put their work aside to make sure you are okay? Probably not many. As a woman and a high school student, I know I always have to multitask and make sure I get all my tasks done (much like I'm doing right now, as I'm writing this article while eating a slice of pizza and doing my homework all at the same time).

Have you ever heard of the saying “Behind every successful man is a woman”? Well if you haven’t, you have now, and if you have, there is usually a reason for that. Women tend to have strong intuitions that help guide and influence people's decisions; therefore, it is only natural that they take those intuitions and talk about them with others, which may or may not spark a great idea. Don’t believe me? Take Cesar Chavez, for example. Cesar Chavez, a Mexican American labor leader known for founding the National Farm Workers Association and the Chicano movement, got the idea for protesting the conditions of farmworkers and Mexican Americans from his friend Dolores Huerta, another widely recognized activist within the labor movement. Together, they were able to fight and combat the conditions farmworkers and Mexican Americans faced during the 1960s. However, who knows how big of an impact this movement would have had on America if Dolores never expressed her concerns for a cause she felt so deeply about!

Lastly, women will take their biggest regret and make sure others don’t feel alone. In fact, that is exactly what Tarana Burke did when she started the #metoo movement. If you are not comfortable with reading about sexual assault (SA), feel free to skip to the last paragraph now. Tarana Burke, the founder of the #metoo movement was inspired to start this movement as a result of experiencing SA herself and after hearing a young girl's experience. Burke recalls a time when a young girl was sharing her story with her and she was not strong enough to listen to the story. After that encounter, she couldn't stop thinking about how she could have told the girl that she was not alone in her story. Since then, the #metoo movement has become globally recognized. Many women have shared their stories and experiences to make sure other women knew they weren’t alone and received the resources they needed to move forward. To learn more about the #metoo movement, go to their website. This is just one example of how women took one of their insecurities and regrets and made a whole movement, something that took many people, to make sure people didn’t feel alone. (If you or a loved one is experiencing SA, please seek professional help, talk to a trusted adult, or direct to the #metoo website for help)

Women are amazing because they can do so many things and still find time to be fabulous and amazing. That includes the things I talked about in this article and more! So if you’re reading this, give a woman a compliment, buy her flowers, or take her out to eat–she’s earned it! I hope you enjoyed reading this article about the amazing things women can do :)
