Women’s writing has historically been largely ignored or minimized due to the subservient position they have held in male-dominated environments. For years, they’ve been overlooked, disregarded, and silenced. However, the female perspective is a crucial part of our history. As societies became more modernized and women were allowed to be educated, printing technologies were also improving. Because of this, it became more accessible for women to write and have their work reproduced for mass consumption. They became known as the authors of many popular novels and became more visible as poets & playwrights too. By the end of the 19th century, female writers were acknowledged as innovative visionaries & creators. Now, modern media outlets like TikTok have increased the popularity and reach of books written by women which allows us to feel heard. Women’s ideas, beliefs, struggles, and dreams have played a large part in shaping our world, and to further understand a woman’s perspective, we must read books written by women from all backgrounds and walks of life.
A woman’s perspective offers an outlook on life that male writers tend to overlook or sometimes portray unrealistically. Female authors often discuss a number of topics like domestic issues, love affairs, feminism, sex, identity crisis, alienation, mental illness, the search for happiness, heartbreak, motherhood, dysfunction, triumph, from the female perspective. This allows us to be more understanding and open-minded on a variety of complex topics. Reading more, in general, expands the mind & makes us well-rounded. Women’s perspectives and overall addition to life add the much-needed flavor to our daily lives.

One of my personal favorites is In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. It’s about a successful woman, Dannie, who sees a vision of herself five years into the future. The book discusses loyalty, friendship, and life’s unpredictability. It’s an amazing book because it is something I think everyone can relate to in some way. Dannie struggles with her relationship with her best friend since childhood. She also battles her personal life & work life because she has the job of her dreams, but it’s putting a hindrance on the relationship she has with her fiancé. The book covers the everyday ups and downs of finding yourself & maintaining relationships.
Some books that are widely popular & constantly recommended on Tik Tok are People We Meet on Vacation, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Beach Read, They Both Die at the End, We Were Liars, The Midnight Library, The Selection, The Hating Game, Six of Crows, The Song of Achilles, and basically any book by Colleen Hoover. |
Books written by women are exciting, relatable, empathetic, refreshing, and eye-opening. The way women writers are usually inclusive of all people and willing to discuss diverse topics makes them some of the world’s best writers. So the next time you’re deciding on your next book to read, or if you should read something at all, consider picking up a book written by a woman.
