She/her - Junior

3 words to describe Nyla : creative, hardworking and a perfectionist.

“I would advise others to take their time and practice different techniques to perfect their painting skills."
Why do you make this type of art?
“I initially started making digital art because I wanted to try creating a webcomic. While that webcomic never came to fruition, I still became enthralled with the digital landscape and wanted to better my skills in that media.”

What does your artwork represent?
“It usually represents some form of message or story depending on how I’m feeling. Of course, there are also pieces that are just for fun with little meaning.”

What inspires you?
“I’m mostly inspired by the stories in the shows that I watch. And racial/ social issues that I care about and understand.”

Is there a connection between the process of making your artwork and the artwork’s message?
“At times, yes., Say if I’m feeling sad in that moment, I feel like that may show in the artwork’s message.”

What does your artwork mean to you?
“To me, my artwork means expressing my thoughts and opinions in a creative way. In some ways, it’s a stress reliever.”

What do you like most about being an artist?
“Being able to bring my ideas and concepts to life.”

How long have you been creating art?
“I have want to say since I was about 3. I’ve been an artist ever since I started drawing in preschool.”

What is the hardest part of being an artist?
“The hardest part is not being overly critical of every piece. As a perfectionist, I’m often quick to point out the wrong parts of a piece rather than being proud of the end result.”

What is the easiest part of being an artist?
“Finding some form of inspiration for art. It can be online or from real life., I just like to think that you can find some form of artistic idea anywhere.”

How long do you plan on pursuing artistry?
“As long as I can. I would like it to be a skill I have with me forever.”

What is your dream project?
“My dream project would probably be having my art on an album cover.”
