“Life isn’t fair” is something I’ve heard parents tell their children as a fundamental of life.
According to the theory of cosmologist Zou Yan, the world hangs in the balance between rich and poor, night and day, winter and summer, sun and moon. For one to rise, the other must fall. For one to shine, one must dim.
Isn’t it crazy that something so “balanced” could be the very thing throwing us into chaos?
It’s hard not to think about as these stone walls surround me. They finally replaced the flowers to accompany the lily pads. It's time for it to start, like a circus people from all over come over to watch the tragedy that’s our lives.
Why do they come to watch? They watch as I chase and long for you. They watch as you run from me but never truly run away from me.
Since we’ve existed, everyone has always admired the little spot of white you have, despite despising the singular spot of black on me. Everyone loves recognizing that you have light despite your darkness. But somehow, everyone sees the flaw of there being darkness in the light. It’s not fair, is it?
Well, life isn’t fair.
For all of eternity, I am doomed to follow, to love, to beg knowing I’ll never reach you. And for all eternity, you will make sure to draw out our chase. We’re opposites yet so alike, never to leave each other but never to be together. Forever tied to the philosophers' words.
Bound together since the prophesied big bang. This is our lives as yin and yang.
