wHY I LOVE LOVE

aLLYSE WALKER, FEBRUARY 2023

I’m writing this on Valentine’s Day, and this is the day of love! I see so many guys giving their girlfriends gifts, and the smell of flowers is in the atmosphere. It’s making me realize how much I love love.
Being in love and falling in love is such a surreal feeling. The slow fall for them is similar to a dripping faucet filling up a cup. The person seeing someone and immediately wanting to talk to them. They don't even know why yet; they just want to make a connection to see if what they felt when they looked at them was real. Then they talk, they fall more and more, and boom: they’re together with the happiest ending you could ever imagine. The guy loving the girl endlessly and wanting to give her the world, and the girl who loves him just as much. All their friends being jealous of them but secretly wishing they had something just as good. It’s a perfect story that comes true more times than you think!
Most old couples, or married couples in general, have a love story. A story of how they got together and how they fell in love with each other. Sure there will be arguments and disagreements in the relationship, but they still love each other just as much. I’ve heard of academic enemies who were #1 and #2 in high school who ended up marrying each other. I’ve heard of a boss who fell in love with his assistant and married her. I've heard of a guy who just wanted to impress a girl at his job, so he did anything and everything to make her smile, and it worked, and he married her. I’ve heard a lot of “high school sweethearts to love” which is my personal favorite.
High school love is such a specific special type of love. The staring at each other in class and seeing each other in the halls. Texting them all day and everyday, being on the phone with them 24/7. Planning all your dates on the weekend because then you don't have school to go to. Walking each other to class, sharing lockers, holding hands in the hallways. Helping each other with homework and talking about your teachers. Joining the same clubs to be near each other for just a bit more time. Walking each other to their cars and taking them home if you can drive and have a car. Putting things in each other’s lockers to make their day. Bringing them gifts on Valentine’s Day and carrying around the gifts all day just to let everyone know how amazing your partner is. It’s such a good feeling to have if you can have it and an envious feeling if you don't.
Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic but I love love. Everything about it is magical and I hope you all get to experience it one day. :)
