“Your next four years will be like high school musical”
Who Lied?
High school musical was sunshine and smiles
High school is the shadow that creeps up on you
All the due dates and standardized tests
But there are no random dance numbers
And I’d hoped there’d be plenty that I must confess
“You’ll make all kinds of friends throughout those 4 short years”
“I bet you’ll have a large friend group just like the movies”
Yeah? Well so did I when I was given that wisdom
Now all I know is how to rake the fakes and snakes from my kingdom
Who Lied?
“High school will be a breeze, you’ll be fine”
Well from what I know, that quote bit me in the neck like a canine
Every chance it gets
Waiting to strike again
All the fake smiles treating you like your friend
But no pain no gain I guess
At least that’s what you say every time you’re stressed
Assignment after assignment
Test after test
But all you wanna do is rest
Who Lied?
“Oh please you’ll be fine, wait until you become an adult. It's much more stressful.”
Then how come my stress levels are similar to a mental patient from the 1950’s
Is there something that I’m missing?
“SAT is all that matters junior year. Your C-days are to take a mental break, but you juniors can’t have that since your future’s at stake.”
I have one more year left
And all I’m doing is wishing
“I’m so close. One last time, graduation is soon, ready for senior year!”
Oh wait-
I can barely relax then
Application 1, 2, 3, and 4 will break my zen
Who Lied?
You did.
Ever since we were kids
The middle schoolers who were ready to graduate
Still annoyed and now barely want to go through those gates.
High school musical was a lie
Just like what we were told
Who lied?
You did
And we’ll remember that until we’re old.
