In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, I will be talking about one of my new favorite artists, Karol G.

Karol G, originally Carolina Giraldo Navarro, was born on February 14, 1991 in Colombia. Carolina wanted to pursue music when she became a fan of the tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. She started to rise to fame in 2006 when she released her first song, “En La Playa.” This led her to create her own stage name, Karol G. She kept releasing new music, but in 2013, she collaborated with the Puerto Rican singer Nicky Jam and released the song “Amor de Dos.” This song became very popular in Colombia and reached over 100 million views on YouTube. After this, she moved to New York in 2014 to learn more about the music industry, which led her to signing with a record label.

Once she released her first album, Super Single, in 2013, she was classified as a reggaeton and Latin trap artist. She began collaborating with many different Latin artists, including Bad Bunny and Ozuna. As her music became popular all over the world, bigger artists wanted to collaborate with her, including ones that were more popular than she was. Karol G was put on the map as one of the greatest singers when she released the song “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj. Karol G has won multiple awards since, including an AMA (American Music Award) and two Latin Grammys.
I personally think that Karol G is one of the best Latin artists. I know multiple people who listen to her music, but I was never drawn to it in the beginning. As time went on, I started to listen to a couple songs here and there. I did not fully listen to all of her music until about a month ago, but that was only because I was going to go to one of her concerts. I will admit that I didn’t think that I would like her songs because it was not my style of music, but as I kept listening to her music, I ended up liking it more than I thought I would. I feel like the reason for this is because I finally found music that spoke to me and actually allowed me to see the person that I am today. I also personally feel that she makes every girl out there feel great about themselves due to the fact that a lot of her songs deal with not caring about what other people have to say and actually being yourself.

She began her Mañana Será Bonito tour on August 10th in Las Vegas. I attended her concert on September 15th in Soldier Field. I didn’t think that I would like it because like I said, I had barely started to listen to her music a month before, but I was wrong. I went with my two sisters, and we had the best time ever. Karol G sang different songs from all of her albums and made sure that everyone had a great time.

I sang along to most of the songs and ended up losing my voice for a bit. She sang songs like “Ocean” (which is one of my personal favorites), “Ojos Ferrari,” and “Tusa.” I can definitely say that my original opinion about her music was very much wrong, and I will continue to love her and her different songs.
I personally feel as if she has the power to unite all types of people because her music is very uplifting and makes you feel very powerful. This is due to the fact that her lyrics have different meanings on what it is like to be a strong and beautiful person. Karol G is and always will be an amazing artist in the eyes of the Hispanic and Latino community.
