The Sun and the Moon are the universe’s greatest lovers
The Sun, filled with his love for the moon, shines so brightly every day
And yet, the sun is not selfish in his love
For every day, he sets on the horizon and lets the moon rise
And she is, oh so beautiful
Hauntingly beautiful and alluring
As her soft, enchanting light rains in through crystal windows
But the universe did not want them to be
And so, they rarely meet, and can never touch
For years, the sun and the moon only caught glimmers of each other
The sun, enraged and heartbroken, burned the Earth with his passion
The moon, lonely and sorrowful, filled Earth’s craters with her tears
And they became the ocean
Pushing and pulling towards her, in waves
Her tears watered the Earth
And from the scorched Earth grew flora, reaching towards the sun
The sun accepted them and showered them with his light
Everyday, they tried, to no avail
To reconnect, to push against their rotation, to be together
The universe, seeing them and pitying them, let them meet
Once in a millennium,
They eclipse
The sun runs to her, against time, against science
And the moon covers her sun with her care and endearment
The Earth turns dark
For what are we to him when she is there
For only a few minutes, there is nothing more important
And nothing more heavenly than them
But these moments always end,
And for the next millennium,
They start this eternal dance again
Stretching out the hours of their dominion,
Filling the sky with the colors of their agony
Waiting desperately for the seconds they see each other
On different sides of the same world
In different roles in the universe
Yet, similar in their devotion to each other
Devotion that will be here when the Earth crumbles
No matter how long it’s been
The sun always sets
The moon always rises
Waiting
Longing
Shining.
