The concept of the Seven Deadly Sins has been around since early Christianity. These ideals are rooted in the true nature of all human beings. Every day, people engage in the sins of pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, sloth, and wrath. It sickens me.
Pride
Pride is considered the original sin, leading to all others. It’s often viewed as one of the worst of the sins since it was committed directly by Satan himself. While we might not have any devils walking around, some people are pretty damn close. The most prideful people of them all are those with the money and power to be so. The greatest example of this is that of our president and our unelected vice president. The issue is that they believe that their superiority is more important than the well-being of millions of Americans.
Greed
Greed closely ties into my last point. Those with everything will make sure that others have nothing. To be more specific, those who have nothing also want to make sure others don’t. This can be seen by certain individuals who think their taxes are more important than children eating. Those people are also most likely struggling in the same ways. Instead of blaming the 1% of people who hoard the majority of a population’s wealth, they seek to hold on to the little money they have.
Lust
Everyone is so freaked out nowadays. In every generation, there are always deviants, but it’s become unacceptable. Last year alone, Sophia Rain made more money than nurses, doctors, teachers, and 90% of America. Do you want to know her job? She creates adult content for money. The problem isn’t that she made that amount of money; it’s the fact that men spent that amount of money on her. There is also an adult content site called “Jerkmates” that created a ranking system to classify all the lustful bastards who use it. Even TikTok, a somewhat family-friendly app has this explicit content. People have begun to “jokingly” use clips or audio of people engaging in sexual activity to make videos. Lust has consumed the minds of our society.
Envy
I think envy subtly manifests in everyone. In the age of social media, it’s easier to see people from all different walks of life. It makes it impossible not to compare yourself to other people. I see envy manifest the most in young women. Many young women will admire other women who have had countless surgeries to look like they do. This leads to a cycle of trying to look like someone who doesn’t even look like themselves. Another aspect of envy that manifests is people being jealous of those who obtain college degrees. People don’t realize that they only find degrees useless because they don’t have them. It discourages people from pursuing higher education when this narrative is consistently pushed. Jealousy seeks to keep others with them.
Gluttony
Gluttony might just be the most disgusting sin of all. The overindulgence of food has skyrocketed in recent years. Whether it be for the shock value or the pure unrivaled big backary, Gluttony has been normalized. The first culprit we can point to is Chipotle. The fact that they will let someone order a burrito so big that you have to carry it like a baby. Or the fact that people will order bowls that overflow like a bucket of slop. I’ve even witnessed a woman eat a burrito bowl in seven bites. SEVEN BITES. That’s still not as bad as the people who candy random foods. So far, I’ve seen candied fried chicken, burritos, pizza, and an already sugary honey bun. I can only imagine the blood pressure and the clogged arteries that some of these individuals have. In all this, the person I hold solely responsible is Nickacado Avacdo. He set the precedent that you can get fame and views by stuffing your face with copious amounts of food. Gluttony is destroying the way people eat tenfold.
Sloth
There are so many lazy useless pieces of crap in the world. In my opinion, it is okay to need help in a society that is so individualistic and expensive. My problem is those who take advantage of others by choosing not to contribute to their homes and lives. Recently, I’ve seen numerous videos where women will discuss how they work, and take care of the home/ kids, while their boyfriends sit on their lazy asses. I saw a video of a woman so slothful that she dropped out of college right before graduation because only fans was easier. This wave of laziness is also why people make millions of dollars selling online courses. People would rather pay to find a quick money grab rather than submit that McDonald’s application. Some people are truly at fault for their own inaction.
Wrath
Wrath may just be the worst sin of all. So many people lose their lives every day over small arguments. May it be from gun violence, road rage, or “self-defense,” violence is always the outcome. People cause war and kill children. Or they come home and release their anger on their families. The wrath that people bring down upon others is disastrous.
These cardinal sins are all around us, and they are only growing. And if you forgot, these people sicken me. They literally sicken me.
