Do Bong Soon is a woman who is gifted with superhuman strength. Every woman in Bong Soon’s family has this superhuman strength, so Bong Soon tries to figure out how to live a normal life with these powers. Normally Bong Soon doesn’t use her powers unless completely necessary because if she harms an innocent person or uses her powers for personal gain, she loses them. Bong Soon came across a couple of thugs that were harassing a school bus driver that was trying to get past their truck, unable to take any more of this, Bong Soon got involved. As Bong Soon is trying to talk the thugs into leaving the man alone, a civilian Ah Min-hyuk stops to see whats going on. Bong Soon’s attempt to talk was in vain so she resorted to teaching them a lesson; she proceeded to beat the living daylights out of each thug. Min-hyuk called the police to get the thugs taken care of and resulted in him and Bong Soon getting taken in for questioning.

This is where we see the one person Bong Soon is fascinated with, In Gook Do. Gook Do is a police officer as well as Bong Soons childhood best friend. A few days after the whole fiasco, Min-hyuk realizes he wants Bong Soon as his bodyguard and sends his secretary to hire her. The reason for this is that Min-hyuk has been getting blackmail and death threats about inheriting his fathers business, which he doesn’t want, he’s been getting followed recently so he thinks its a good idea. But when Bong Soon hears about this she thinks its a scam, until she hears the company name. Ah Min-Hyuk is the CEO of Ainsoft, a company that Bong Soon has had her eye on for the longest time since she wants to make a game where she is the main character. Bong Soon agrees on one condition; after the blackmailer is caught, she gets to make her own game. Upon their meeting Bong Soon thinks her new boss is annoying to no end, and she’s not going to have an easy time dealing with him and a blackmailer, but that’s not all. Around Bong Soon’s neighborhood there has been a murder case and a kidnapping case both with the same target victim.

Will Bong Soon make it as a bodyguard or will she fail to protect Min-hyuk? And how will she deal with her childhood unrequited love as her boss gets flirty?

Now, let me tell you about my favorite aspects of this show. (spoilers ahead)

Mystery and Crime

Picture
Walking into this show, I thought it was going to be nothing but sunshine and rainbows, but then I got slapped with kidnappings, maniacs, and blackmailers. But it was included in a way that didn’t overwhelm and steer away from the main couple. Min-Hyuk’s villain was someone who aimed to scare him into declining his fathers offer to inherit his business, and Bong Soon's is a psychopath who wants to kidnap 7 different girls so they can become his wives. Unlike other dramas, this one doesn’t shy away from the creepy and disturbing. Certain scenes in this show made me feel like it was real and it actually happened, it was enough to creep me out like a true crime documentary. Another thing was that they didn’t make the villain easy to catch, while it was very infuriating at times since they weren’t able to catch him, it actually made sense as to why.

Bong Soon’s love-hate relationship with her powers

Picture
Her conflicting emotions towards her powers were so impactful. At certain times, Bong Soon wanted nothing to do with them because they prevented her from having the life she wanted and they didn’t allow her to be like everyone else. But on the other hand, she loved them because she could help everyone. Whether it went noticed or unnoticed, Bong Soon always wanted to use her powers for the greater good, and it wasn’t until she lost them when she finally realized how much they formed a part of her. This was amazingly done in the way they made Bong Soon gradually fall in love with her powers.

Romance

Time for everyone’s favorite part, ROMANCE. Bong Soon and Min-Hyuk were so cute it was heartwarming. I love how Bong Soon and Min-Hyuk’s relationship didn’t feel forced but rather it went through the phases of a “normal relationship”. They started off as strangers annoyed at each other, then they turned into employee annoyed with employer, then employer concerned for employee, then both of them concerned for each other but not wanting to show it, and finally to accepting their feelings as much as they hate to.

Their story is such a cute modern enemies to lovers case. The way they acted around each other during the crush stage was sooo hard to watch because although they were infatuated with each other, neither of them wanted to take the first step. And when it was finally time for them to date, it was so much more satisfying because they could finally do all their sweetly sick PDA everywhere. The amount of love Min-Hyuk has for Bong Soon is enviable. He was ready to die for her, he literally got hurt just to save her. Min-Hyuk stayed with Bong Soon throughout everything even though he knew that she was different, because he didn’t care, he was ready to go through everything if it meant supporting Bong Soon in what she wanted to do.

Final Thoughts

This show was recommended to me ages ago but I never actually got to it. It wasn’t until a friend of mine reminded me about it by saying how much she loved it the first time she watched it, and now I know why. I wish I could watch this show for the first time again. Although each episode was almost an hour and a half long, it didn’t tire me out, in reality I think I finished this show in 2 weeks. This show was such an amazing experience that I hope you all could experience too.
