Roommates of Poongduck 304

Eli Torres, Febuarary 2023

Personal Rating -10/10
Where to Watch- Viki
8 episodes
Genre- BL, Business, Romance
Roommates of Poongduck 304 starts off with Ji Ho Joon, who is the son of a CEO and ultimately, a very spoiled brat. So it comes as no surprise when his father kicks him out without money or a house to see if he can fend for himself for two years. With no place to stay, the first thing Ho Joon does is look for an apartment, but he has a very strict criteria: the water pressure needs to be at a certain level. This is where we meet Seo Jae Yoon. Jae Yoon is renting a room in his apartment, with very good water pressure I might add, and naturally Ho Joon calls him to check the room. Since Jae Yoon is at work he asks his friend, Ho Cheol, to show Ho Joon around. He falls in love with the apartment as soon as he checks the water pressure, so he tells Ho Cheol he’ll pay the rent upfront. Ho Cheol, being completely broke, scams Ho Joon and leaves with an extra sum of money without telling Jae Yoon. Once Jae Yoon gets back home he is upset with Ho Joon because he never said he could move in without paying a deposit. Ho Joon counters by saying that he already paid, and thats when the realization hits both of them that he basically got scammed. Ho Joon refuses to leave until Jae Yoon gets the money back and Jae Yoon has no way of getting the money back, so naturally they’re not on the best of terms, and his life doesn’t get any easier.  Jae Yoon is about to get promoted to a full time employee at his company when he gets switched to a team that always fails. No matter who gets put on the team it always fails miserably, but nonetheless Jae Yoon is determined to get through this and get hired as a full time employee. That is until Ho Joon comes into the picture. It turns out that Ho Joon didn’t get left with nothing, his father gave him a job as a team leader, his father who is the CEO of the company Jae Yoon works at, and the team that Jae Yoon is in is being lead by Ho Joon. How will this story play out? Will Jae Yoon get hired as a full time employee, or will his dreams fail? And what happened to the enemy roommates of Poongduck 304? Do they stay enemies, or do they develop a bond closer than they both imagined?

Story Line

The way the story played out was honestly really cute. In the beginning it was obviously enemies who want nothing to do with each other, but as time progressed you could see the moments where their hatred started to waver then turned into concern, then concern turned into friendship, and friendship turned into love. It was a slow burn drama, but in my opinion it was worth it. The way they developed Jae Yoon and Ho Joon’s characters was really well executed where they weren't directly launched into a romantic situation but rather, they gradually reached that point in the end.

Jae Yoon the People Pleaser with a Dream

As the title suggests, Jae Yoon is in fact a people pleaser with no sense of self preservation. Jae Yoon has had a crush on one of his oldest friends for the longest time, so naturally he does everything and anything he needs. Jae Yoon's friend sells different things and he guilt trips Jae Yoon into buying things from him so he can get promoted. From the first moment I saw this man I knew there was something off about him. He makes Jae Yoon buy useless things saying that he’s going to need them sooner or later, and then comes the guilt tripping. He tells Jae Yoon that if he doesn’t buy anything from him, it means that he wants him to fail, and makes Jae Yoon believe that buying things from him will eventually make him return his feelings and love. This goes on for a long time until Ho Joon makes him realize that what he is doing isn’t love, he’s being manipulated. Ho Joon is the only person who gives Jae Yoon the confidence to say no. After being with Ho Joon for a while, some of his antics rubbed off on Jae Yoon and he started to be more confident in himself.

Final Thoughts

All in all, this was a cute and easy show to watch. While there were some things shown that I would’ve preferred were not included, it was still a very satisfying show. The cute moments along with the serious ones were a great combination and the chemistry between the two was amazing and didn’t feel forced at all.

Kim Ji Woong Plug

Kim Ji Woong (Ho Joon’s actor) is now a contestant in Boys Planet! Boys Planet is a survival show for aspiring Kpop trainees to debut. Ji Woong is a very talented dancer and singer(not only that but he is also very pretty). So yeah, just a little plug for Ji Woong in hopes that he debuts.
