Where pride lives, love cannot. That’s the problem.
I don’t consider myself to be a very prideful person, but I’m self-aware enough to know I have my moments. Sometimes my moments come too often or too far in between. It’s very hard to get a handle on my pride. We all have our moments. Even you do. We aren’t perfect.
The reason this won’t work, among many others, is our pride. Neither of us wants to stop being prideful. But as I just said, where pride lives, love cannot. The love will never be as pure as it’s meant to be when it’s tainted with pride. Pride overrides compassion. The love is just as pure as our intentions, yet we let it become foreign by forgetting where we came from.
We came from love. However, when I look at you, I see a story that’s become disfigured and contorted by our failure to acknowledge and our mastery in neglect. Pride is selfish. Selfishness is consuming. You can’t effectively love someone when you’re consumed with yourself. Pride is hindering. It will never allow you to be bare, down to your organs without the fear of being exploited. But exploited by who? Someone you trust with your life? Pride is stupid. Being prideful is only allowing you to feel the hurt you feel and not the pain you inflict. Drop your pride when you’re ready to be loved, because where pride lives, love cannot.
Stop being prideful.
