masked

Aissa Bocoum, October 2025

Everyone wears a mask
No matter who they are
Whether big or small,
No one is completely honest.
Every soul have a part that wants
To be hidden and lost forever
Either they are embarrassed, ashamed, or shy.
All because of judgment
Everyone is afraid to be judged or exiled.
Everyone has a side to them.
That is either revealed through space and time.
Or remains a mystery.

We’re all good at pretending.
Fake smiles hide a deeper truth to oneself.
Others will hide and pretend to be someone they're not
Because they’re hurt
Everyone has opinions
Best kept to themselves
Others don't know the impact of words.
Some pretend to be fine when they’re not.
Others judge to make them feel special
Or better about themselves
Everyone is insecure about something.
The fakeness suffocates us
In reality, we want to kick and scream.
Saying we’re real or true
So we’re all masked
Some as small as pebbles, others as big as mountains
Everyone hides under a mask to protect themselves.
From the judgements of others
Mask is what we wear
