“He wanna know how it smell. Ask Santos, he know it smell well.”
These are lyrics from infamous lolcow Ashley Trevino, or Ash. If you’re unfamiliar with Ash or the term “lolcow,” it refers to someone easily provoked into embarrassing or cringey things. Ashley Trevino has been under fire for her inappropriate lives, the poor caretaking of her kids, dating inmates and convicted felons, and much more. I’m not here simply to bring light to her disturbing past, but also the effect it has on her children, how she (and other lolcows) thrive off of media scrutiny, and the redundancy of giving her a platform.
Ashley Trevino, a 35-year-old mother, has continually put her children in danger, from being irresponsible by leaking her daughters’ information multiple times to dating inmates/felons. Why she still has the rights to her kids is beyond me. Instead of Ash hiring adult moderators to moderate her adult lives, she instead forces her children to. Being a child and being aware of your mother’s sex life is disturbing and unacceptable beyond cognition. Being a child and being aware of your mother’s active jealousy is absurd; you shouldn’t compete with a minor as an adult, especially your child.
Recently, Ash has garnered lots of attention and bullying on the internet. Such bullying includes comments about her weight and build, saying her “nunu” stinks, name-calling, and more. Unfortunately, some internet trolls are bullying her children as well. If you are a parent, it is important to remember to keep your child’s face off of the internet if they do not meet the app’s requirements. However, if you are aware of the constant harassment you face daily, why would you put your children in harm's way by making their identity public? Does she understand the bullying her kids will face as they age? Imagine not even being able to argue with someone because you know every time you do, your mother will be brought up. Sure, you are not your parent, and bringing up someone’s parents in an argument is immature; however, these are little kids who know no better. Just as you are a reflection of your parent, your parent can be a reflection of you.
But does this bother Ashley? Well… no! This brings us to my next point: she thrives off media scrutiny--and more importantly, having an audience to entertain.
Ashley Trevino has always been someone who’s craved internet success, and it is clear how far she would go to achieve that. By lolcows such as herself leveraging the attention they receive on and offline, even if negative, they can increase visibility and gain a larger following. They can then monetize their content through a variety of ways. The controversy and drama surrounding their actions often keep people engaged, perpetuating their presence in the media. Essentially, any publicity, even reproval, can be beneficial for maintaining their online persona and income streams.
This brings us to my final point: the redundancy of giving her a platform. There are countless videos with timelines of Ash Trevino. At one point, she even had one million followers. Just as there are videos explaining the life of Ash, there are likely more talking about how bad of a person she is. However, continually talking about her and giving her the attention she so desperately craves only enables her further. Giving her the attention she wants, including posting and or commenting bad things about her, does nothing but allow her to use her platform to get clowned, make bank, and troll. We could simply stop talking about her in general. This would include not watching her lives, interacting with her pages and the pages that repost her, giving her gifts on her lives, etc.
In conclusion, Ashley Trevino is a horrible person and an even worse mother who will not let go of her five seconds of fame. Additionally, social media is a contending contributor to why she continues to mistreat her kids and act like a fool on the internet. There are multiple clips of her emotionally abusing her kids. No matter how hilarious you may find her, she is a negligent errant who should have her kids and social media presence taken away from her.
