The space is small, but they do not let it get out of control. The tables are cleaned efficiently and quickly. There is no garbage on the floor or seats. It is very clean, inviting and warm.
The service was decent. The food came out pretty quickly, and overall, they get people in and out in a timely manner. The waiters were not too enthusiastic, but they were helpful and got the job done.
Ja Grill is relatively small. It holds about less than 60 people. Because the space is small, the tables were proportionally small as well. There is enough space for everyone to fit and eat comfortably, though. The Jamaican artwork on the wall fits the food and overall vibe of the restaurant. There are four televisions in the restaurant, featuring a sports game or movie while customers eat.
We ordered a chicken patty, cabbage, jerk shrimp, plantains, and honey jerk chicken. The honey jerk chicken was good: not as spicy as jerk may typically be, but it definitely still had authentic Jamaican flavor. The plantains were great. The jerk shrimp had a “spicy” warning marked by an image of a chili pepper. It was immediately intriguing, but I found it disappointing that it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. If anything, the spicy warning was not necessary, and it was mild. The cabbage tasted sweet, and I really enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken patty because they were out of beef at the moment, but it was surprisingly good.
Ja Grill is an 8/10 restaurant. The food was really good, and we would definitely recommend and go back.
