The release of Elden Ring was one of the biggest releases in 2022, as this game was highly anticipated by fans of the "dark souls" genre. Elden Ring was released on February 22nd, on all platforms besides the Switch. This game was the best game in 2022 for quite a long time and nothing had gotten close to its stature until God of War Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers were released. This game was loved by all who played it, but do be warned that this game isn't friendly towards newcomers to the series.

Story

Elden Ring on the surface appears to have no story, but that's far from the case. You initially play a meaningless character who explores the world in search of power. You go and defeat bosses until you have access to Shardbears, who'll give you access to the Great Runes.

The Great Runes are what'll give you the power to restore the Elden Ring. In order to get a true feel for the story, you have to create one yourself. I love how this game lets the player have freedom to do whatever they want. If you want to go to a castle before going through the forest, you can. There are infinite possibilities for the direction that you can take your story.

gameplay

The combat is very technical. Stamina is essential in order to be effective in combat. You have to time your dodging accordingly, or you will die in two to three hits. This game isn't forgiving, and it'll force you to memorize boss patterns. However, that means that it's very rewarding when you do finally beat a boss.

This game also has a unique level system. You level up your character through your currency. You can get money through killing enemies, but beware that once you die, you lose all of your currency. You can get it back, but if you die again, it'll be lost forever. Playing the game is pretty fun, and it's addicting to want to get stronger.

My Thoughts

I really enjoyed playing this game. Although this game can be confusing to traverse through, it gives the player much more control and freedom on how they want to play. Along with being challenging and keeping the player on their toes, I like how the game rewards the player for exploration so it doesn't feel like you're fighting a losing battle. This game compensates players for never giving up and it shows throughout the game, as well as in boss fights. The game teaches the player to adapt to the enemies’ moves, even while dying over and over. I would recommend this game and give it a 10/10.
