We were once two
Two heads
Two sets of arms and legs
But one heart
Fearing our power,
Zeus separated us from our other halves
How many have found the wrong half
How many have spent their lives with the wrong person
But I do not believe the heavens left us on our own
Henceforth, we had soul ties
Red strings connecting us to our other body
I have felt it, once before
Tugging at my insides
Yet, when I searched, there was no one to be found
Was he one of them? One who found the wrong half?
Does he feel me in the deepest part of his bones, as I do?
How bewitching it must be
To take you away from me
What, oh what, could have cut our thread
What could have been our fault
The flesh is only flesh
The spirit can not fight it
For the flesh is still man and man revels in sin
Wrath
Greed
Sloth
Gluttony
Lust
Pride
Envy
Are they what keep you from me?
If my half is taken, what becomes of my missing rib?
Doomed to walk this barren Earth alone
If there is reincarnation,
If there is another world,
Is it the same?
A wasteland, of mismatched beings
All of them, unfulfilled
What happiness can come from the demise of others?
Awake at night, I know it rattles every part of you
You will never realize the story you have interrupted
The chapter you have rewritten
When you stray from the red thread
Has that tugging at your heart disappeared?
If you hadn’t needed the feast of beauty so badly
The tie which shapes our love would have slipped
The incessant notion reminds me: being human is our greatest fault
