This is my grandmother's recipe for how she made brioche bread. This recipe is also pretty old (she made it when she was in cooking school). However, it’s still just as good as it was when she made it.
Ingredients
Steps
- 1 cup scalded milk (to the point of almost boiling)
- 1 cup butter
- 2 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup of sugar
- 2 packets of yeast
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- 4 eggs, well beaten
- 4 ½ cups of flour
Steps
- Put packs of yeast into lukewarm water and let sit
- Scald milk, add milk to bowl with butter, salt, and sugar. Stir until warm
- Add yeast mixture to bowl
- Add beaten eggs to bowl
- Beat in flour until dough forms
- Let rise in a warm place for 6 hours and then chill until ready to use
- Form dough into 3 small balls, ⅓ size of the original dough and braid
- Brush tops of dough with butter and let rise until doubled in size
- Brush tops again and put into oven for 25 minutes on 375 degrees
- Enjoy :)
