blood-covered "love"

atticus villanueva, february 2026

The rose named love
I have always wanted it
Yet the rose I had
Left scars on my hand

The rose named love
Made my hand bleed
The thorns grew deeper and deeper
Each passing day

The rose named love
Blinded me from the pain
I thought the blood on my hand was love
I thought every drop taken from me was love

At times, I opened my eyes
But the blood stained rose called to me
The sweet tone of words my heart longed for
For the rose knew my weakness

Over and over
The rose claimed my blood again
My eyes blind to the truth
Each time I let go

The thorns dug deeper
A punishment
For choosing anything other than
The rose

Now fear runs through my heart
Fear of other flowers
Wether tulips
Other roses

Fear is what I feel now
For other flowers
That they’re all like the rose
The rose covered in my blood

The rose named love
Left only the scars on my hand
Fear and scars
All that I bare now

Was it even real love to begin with?
