Thanksgiving: when the pilgrims and the Natives
Had a big feast, celebrating each other’s teachings, they say, As if their smallpox didn’t leave just a small portion of the Wamponoags to grieve their dead-- Nevertheless, we celebrate. Kindness is preached like we ain’t fighting over the Saints and the Packers. Like we ain’t boxing over a TV tomorrow morning, Going up and through the store like some hooligans I coulda swore I heard my momma yelling about some home training-- Very funny. Thanksgiving is just a prelude to Christmas, as If Christmas needed a prelude, as if Christmas ain’t get here before Halloween. No-vember: a month of restraint not practiced Give back (to those whose favorite pastime is exploiting you). Sometimes, it’s hard not to notice that we have more in common with Rolfe than we ever did with the pilgrims in Plymouth. |
