Album Review :
DESVELADO - Eslabon Armado

Eli Torres, June 2023

Picture
Eslabon Armado is an American regional Mexican group formed in 2017. The group consists of Pedro Tovar (lead vocals), Brian Tovar (bass), Damian Pacheco (requinto guitar), and Ulises Gonzales (acoustic guitar). They’ve been active since 2017 and have gained popularity rapidly in the past few years.

Personally I didn’t get into Eslabon Armado until recently. It probably happened sometime around fall last year because some of my friends brought up one of their songs. I have honestly really grown to love their music. Both the lyrics and the rhythms have an amazing way of encapsulating a listener into their story.

In honor of their new album, DESVELADO, I want to take the time to appreciate each song, diving deep into their lyrics and and even deeper into the meaning of my personal favorite songs.  (I’ll try my best to provide translations!)

Track List -  DESVELADO (Visualizers)

¿Quién es El? (Who is He?)

Quien es El is a song I didn’t really expect to be in this album. It’s a very mellow sentimental song that depicts a yearning for what once was in a relationship and the questions that arise when an ex partner meets with someone new. One of my favorite lines from this song is “Tengo ganas de tenerte, Tristemente no se puede, Me duele mucho, cada día sufro y está bien” (there's this urge to have you, sadly that’s not possible, it hurts me a lot, every day I suffer and that’s ok). I really liked this line mainly because it showed how even if you love someone, sometimes it can’t happen and you have to deal with it.

Quedate Conmigo ft. Grupo Frontera (Stay with Me)

Quédate Conmigo was a song that brought flashbacks from Mexico. This song is literally the definition of Norteña mixed in with a little bit of modern Spanish music sprinkled in. The moment I heard this I was already bopping my head back and forth. I was also very happy that Grupo Frontera was on here since I’m a big fan of their music. The song is basically the title, it’s about being so in love with someone that you want them to stay by your side forever. Favorite line for this one was “La persona que me hace sonreír, la que me hace feliz eres tú, Cada segundito te amo yo más” (the person that makes me happy, makes me smile is you, every second I love you more). It shows how one person can make your entire day by just being there and make you fall in love.

Ella Baila Sola ft. Peso Pluma (She Dances Alone)

Ella Baila Sola was an EP released before the album. Most people probably know this song through the iconic line: “Compa, que le parece essa mora? La que anda bailando sola me gusta pa mi. BELLA'' (Buddy, what do you think of that girl? The one who’s dancing alone, I like her for me). I heard this line before I heard the song, and I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the entirety of the song. It’s honestly just very upbeat and brings you in the feels. This song goes through the story of two friends talking about a girl who is (surprise suprise) dancing alone and how they want to talk to her. The song itself is honestly just a hit but my favorite line has to be “No soy un vato que tiene varo
Pero hablando del corazón, te cumplo todo” (I’m not a guy who has money, But speaking of the heart, I’ll give you everything). I like this one mainly because it shows how even if they don’t have money they’ll try their best to give you everything. That’s personally more than I could ever ask for in a partner.

Vamos Contra El Mundo (Lets Go Against the World)

Vamos Contra el Mundo is another slow, thought-provoking song. It shows the love he has for someone and how he wants that love to last forever, through the good and the bad. This leads me to my favorite lyric “Juro, siemprе voy a protegerte, Si me ocupas, ahí estaré, Limpio tus lagrimas, bebé, Solo ten un poco de paciencia” ( I swear I’ll always protect you, if you need me I’ll be there, I’ll wipe your tears baby, just be patient). It was nice to hear about what he would do to help his lover instead of talking about how hot she is. All jokes aside, this is really heartwarming because he’s saying that he’ll always be there but to be patient because he could get things wrong or take some time to do it right

Nunca es Suficiente (Never Enough)

Nunca es Suficiente is actually a cover of Los Ángeles Azules and Natalia’s Nunca es suficiente. The original cumbia is a classic that almost everyone knows but this cover was honestly amazing. It was a calming lullaby with amazing acoustics that tell you into the melody. The song  itself is talking about how he always needs more and wants to stay with her forever. My favorite line from this would have to be “Yo quisiera hacerte más feliz, Hoy, mañana, siempre, hasta el fin” (I want too many you happier, today, tomorrow, until the end). I love this part because it’s also how sincere the feeling is to make her feel loved and cared for until the end of time.

Final Thoughts

For me this was a no skip album. I love how each song tells its own story but the album still has a flow to it that makes all the songs fit together amazingly. I would have gone over more songs if I had time, but I decided to just stick with my favorites that I feel needed more attention. But overall, DESVELADO is an easy 10/10 for me. You all are entitled to believe what you think but this is my personal rating.
